Social Defense Institute
Welcome to the Social Defense Institute Fellowship program! This 12-month fellowship is designed for new graduates of the Philippine National Police Academy who are young police officers deployed to different locations in the Philippines. Our program is focused on social defense, which we define as the prevention of crime through boundary-spanning leadership across sectors.
Learning Objectives:
Develop an understanding of social defense and its role in crime prevention.
Gain knowledge on human rights, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
Learn how to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and partners, such as government agencies, civil society groups, and communities.
Develop leadership and problem-solving skills to implement crime prevention initiatives.
Acquire real-world experience through practicum activities with partner institutions.
Program Components:
Synchronous Zoom Sessions: Fellows will participate in regular Zoom sessions with instructors and guest speakers to discuss topics related to social defense, human rights, and crime prevention. These sessions will be interactive and provide opportunities for fellows to engage with each other and with experts in the field.
Asynchronous Learning Activities: Fellows will have access to a variety of online resources, including readings, videos, and case studies. These activities will allow fellows to explore topics in more depth and at their own pace.
Real-world Practicum: Fellows will engage in real-world practicum activities, working with partner institutions to implement crime prevention initiatives. These activities will provide valuable experience in working with diverse stakeholders and partners.
